Challenge Description:

In order to find an effective solution for our client, we are looking for a temporary software engineer with solid experience in software and mobile application development. He will play a crucial role in developing a QR code reading application, ensuring seamless integration of the revolutionary features and delivering a high-quality user experience to customers. The company is based in the Triveneto region and operates in the sporting goods industry.

Its product range includes a wide selection of shoes for running, soccer, tennis, basketball and other sports. It offers high-quality footwear that combines performance, comfort, and style. It also provides sportswear such as jerseys, shorts, sweatshirts, and jackets characterized by attention to detail, attractive designs, and quality materials.

In the category of running shoes, it offers various models suitable for different types of runners, both for training and racing. Our client wants to launch a revolutionary running shoe with innovative features:

  • Transparent supply chain: each shoe has a unique QR code or NFC tag that customers can scan to access detailed information about the shoe’s production process, including the origin of raw materials, factory conditions, labor practices, and environmental impact.
  • Sustainable materials: the shoe is made from eco-friendly materials such as recycled polyester, organic cotton and bio-based synthetic fibers, with a focus on reducing waste and minimizing the carbon footprint.
  • Local sourcing initiatives: the company works with local communities and small-scale suppliers to promote fair trade, support local economies, and ensure transparency and responsible production practices.
  • End-of-life management: the shoe incorporates a take-back program, which allows customers to return used shoes. Advanced recycling techniques are used to turn materials into new products or dispose of them responsibly.
  • Enhanced performance: the shoe combines transparency with cutting-edge technology, offering features such as cushioning, breathability, and traction optimized for various sports and activities.

Key requirements:

By incorporating software and hardware requirements, our client enables customers to seamlessly access detailed information about the shoe manufacturing process, promoting transparency and sustainable practices in the sporting goods industry. The QR code reading application shall meet the following requirements:

  • QR code reader: Customers need to install the QR code reader app compatible with their device’s operating system, such as iOS or Android.
  • Smartphone or tablet: customers must have a device with a working camera to scan the QR codes on the shoes, meeting the minimum specifications required by the QR code reader application.

Technical Specifications:

Development Tools, choose from the following two options:

  • Native app development: use of platform-specific languages and tools such as Java/Kotlin for Android or Swift/Objective-C for iOS, with IDEs such as Android Studio or Xcode.
  • Cross-platform app development: using frameworks such as React Native, Flutter or Xamarin to create apps that can run on multiple platforms with a single code base.

QR code scanning functionality: integration of dedicated libraries or SDKs for QR code scanning, which can be platform-specific or cross-platform depending on the development approach chosen.
User interface (UI) design: an intuitive and user-friendly interface with a camera viewfinder, scan indicator, and appropriate feedback for QR code scanning.

API integration: communication with relevant APIs to retrieve detailed information about the shoe production process using RESTful API calls or other communication protocols.

Testing and installation: extensive testing to ensure functionality, performance, and compatibility across different devices using specific testing tools and frameworks. The application can then be distributed in app stores for download by customers.

Project Details:

The project timeline is two months from the start, and communication with the external expert will be facilitated by a Widecons Delivery Manager. The compensation will be agreed upon before the start of the project.
